I did it! I’m a Boston Marathoner

It’s been a week since the Boston Marathon, and I’m still not sure I have the words to express how incredibly amazing this race was. The race was everything I wanted it to be, even with the monsoon-like conditions. Running 26.2 miles in torrential downpours and 30 mph headwinds can only be described with one word…crazy! But I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I’m pretty sure I ran the whole way with a big smile on[Read more]

7 Days to Go!

I wrote an email to my friends and family to thank them for supporting me while I trained and fund-raised for the Boston Marathon. I really like what I wrote; I think it really explains why this race is so important to me and how training for a marathon can really change a person. I thought that I’d share the email with you: This time next week, I’ll be eating a burger and fries from Five Guys (I’ll probably even[Read more]

Taper time + Running community

This Saturday I completed my final long run this training cycle. You know what that means. It’s taper time!! For this run, we were bused to the Boston Marathon starting line in Hopkinton, and ran along the course for 21 miles. Let me just say, if you’re ever training for Boston and are a local, or even if you’re not training for Boston, and live far away, you should come here for this training run! The crowd support along the[Read more]

Finding inspiration from others

On International Women’s Day, I attended a panel of 5 game-changing women. The panel was put on by 261 Fearless, a non-profit organization that seeks to empower women. This is also the organization that has given me the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon. The panel consisted of 5 women from various backgrounds, who have all accomplished a great deal in their own respects: Ayanna Pressley, the first woman of color to be elected to the Boston City Council; Joann[Read more]

Super Bowl Squares!

Whether you’re a Pats fan, an Eagles fan, or a Justin Timberlake fan, chances are you’ll be watching the game this Sunday. Why not make it a little more interesting? I am hosting Super Bowl Squares to raise money for 261 Fearless. If you haven’t played before, Squares is a game of chance. You claim a square (or two or three!) on the grid. Before the game starts, each column and row of the grid will be randomly assigned a[Read more]

Marathon Training: Week 7

After a couple weeks of resting my hamstring, I really picked up the running this week. My hamstring isn’t 100% yet, but I have been doing some strengthening exercises every day that focus not only on my hamstrings, but my quads and glutes too. It got to 60 degrees this week! SIXTY DEGREES! After the deep freeze we experienced the week before, this truly felt like a heat wave! Summer can’t come soon enough! Warmer temps called for running outside.[Read more]
