‘Tis the season for holiday parties, themed cocktails, family time and gifts! Finding the right gift for someone can be pretty stressful. I’ve put together a list of gifts
that my husband should read I think would make a great gift for the runner in your life!
1. Cold weather gear
Runners with a spring race in the books are going to be spending a lot of time outdoors this winter. Running outside in the middle of a blizzard or when when it’s -8 degrees out deserves some serious bragging rights. In order to stand these conditions, every runner can use some essential cold weather gear.
You can’t go wrong with a serious pair of gloves or mittens. I have my eye on these ones. A scarf will also help keep you warm. I wore my husbands ski balaclava on a run once, but it was a little too much for me. I like the idea of a scarf or gaiter much more. Something to cover my nose/ mouth if I need it, but not all-consuming. This one can also be used as a head band!
One item I am told I must have for snowy runs are yaktrax. These bad boys go over your running shoes to help you grip the snow. I think these are awesome and I might use them for everyday wear. The sidewalks can get pretty slippery in the snow.
2. Face masks!
After spending so much time outdoors, the cold weather can wreak havoc on your skin. I love putting on a facemask to add a little moisture to my skin, and make me feel like I am pampering myself. I love the sheet masks from Tony Moly. My favorite is the avocado one. I also recently started using this Shea moisture face mask. It’s very gentle, so I use it every other day to give my skin a little boost. I also think it smells nice. 🙂
3. Nathan Zipster Belt
I’ve been using this hip belt for the last couple months and I love it! There are enough pockets to put my key, cell phone and fuel without having to squeeze everything in. There is even a hole for your headphones to go through, so you can fully close the zip pocket. My waist is smaller then my hips and I do find that this rides up a little bit (instead of staying low on my hips), but it’s not enough that I’m continuously thinking about it. In fact, I wore it recently during a half marathon and completely forgot I was using it!
4. Training journal
After running for a few years, I’m finally taking the advice of all the pros (and non-pros, basically anyone who runs) and am using a training log to document my workouts. I really like being able to go back to see how I progressed during my training. I am currently using the Believe Training Journal (created by Lauren Fleshman) and I love it. It’s not only helpful for documenting my workouts, but it’s really pretty to look at! I almost didn’t want to mess it up with my awful handwriting. 🙂
5. Customized jewelry
I am a huge fan of jewelry with meaning, and these days, it is everywhere. One of my favorite Etsy stores, BlushesandGold, creates beautiful bracelets and necklaces that can be customized. A great gift for a woman who just ran or is training for a major race would be a necklace with the GPS coordinates of where the race takes place. Or perhaps a cuff with her favorite mantra. I think these make very thoughtful gifts and are my absolute favorite.
